VISITORS CENTRE DETAILS
Our visitors centre has evolved from the fortuitous amalgamation of the woodwind making workshops of Ward & Winterbourn oboes, Dolmetsch Recorders and Daniel H Bangham: Classical Clarinets.
A variety of woodwind instruments will be made on site for observation and participation.
Not only is there a running, professional workshop on site but we are proud to have a purpose-built lecture room/workshop equipped with workbenches and equipment, where hands on experience and lessons can be run. This includes school visits, ‘taster’ days, repair and maintenance teaching sessions and full instrument making courses. (See here for further details)
The centre is ever growing its unique resource of equipment and materials, including written literature and archive resources. Historic equipment is will be on view, including a "setting out" machine that has been in continuous use since, we believe, the 1880s.
The site is accessible by Foot, Bike, Bus, Rail and Road. The Citi 7 bus runs regularly to within walking distance (Ask for the Rose pub in Stapleford), as does the London Liverpool Street train (Shelford Station).
