MAKE A RECORDER: ACTIVITY DAY FOR CHILDREN

Course overview | These sessions use a specially developed kit, from the Mollenhauer recorder company, designed to enable children to make their own recorder. Each participant will end up with a complete working recorder.

With skilled makers as teachers, and kits provided by the world-famous Mollenhauer recorder workshop in Germany, children can make a beautiful, working musical instrument. Our 'Make a Mollenhauer Dream Recorder' afternoon course will be held at the Cambridge Woodwind Makers Champion Workshop in the beautiful setting of Stapelford Granary.

The budding instrument maker will be taught how to make the finger holes in the correct places, using the special equipment provided. The wooden bodies then need to be sanded and finished ready for staining and polishing. The precision engineered plastic head joint and mouthpiece will then be assembled and fitted to the instrument. After some finer adjustments are completed the child will have a beautiful finished instrument, ready to play!

During the workshop session, instructors will also explain how other instruments are made and how the recorder works.

Participants will also make a wooden woodland whistle.
