CHALMEAU MAKING

Course overview | Make your own chalumeau with expert classical clarinet maker, Daniel Bangham and recorder maker Tim Cranmore

During this one-week course, Daniel and Tim will teach you to make a chalumeau, a unique precursor to the clarinet. The chalumeau has many constructional and design elements of the recorder, which I is why both Tim and Daniel are running this course together.

You will learn how to turn the wood, bore the inside, cut tone holes, shape the joints and ferrules, make the mouthpiece and voice it as well as making the keys.

With only two students on the course, you are assured dedicated attention as required.
